Disney After Hours Event

Disney has just announced a new event they are calling “Disney After Hours”. It essentially lets you stay late at the Magic Kingdom, think of it as the ultimate night out on the town except you’re at Magic Kingdom vs Downtown. Here are all the details I’ve managed to scrounge up so far.

What is it?
Essentially you get to be in the Magic Kingdom for three additional hours after park closing and enjoy select rides, what used to be known as E-Ticket rides from the looks of it, and character meet and greets.

When is it?
April 14th: 11:00PM – 2:00AM
April 21st: 11:00PM – 2:00AM
April 28th: 10:00PM – 1:00AM
—–
May 5th: 10:00PM – 1:00AM
May 8th: 11:00PM – 2:00AM
May 12th: 11:00PM – 2:00AM
May 19th: 11:00PM – 2:00AM

When do I check-in?
As with most of the hard ticket events you can get in earlier than the event start time. In this case you can arrive at the park as early as 7:00PM. That is a total of 7 or 8 hours in the park depending on the end time of the event you go to.

How Much is it?
$149 – All Tickets

What do I get for all that money?
You get to enjoy the Magic Kingdom for up to 8 hours, with the last three hours being much less crowded. The rides which will remain open seem to be what used to be called E-Ticket Rides. You also get frozen treats and beverages.

Is it worth it?
Well, that’s really up to you. However, if you’re here I guess you want my opinion so here it is.

If you’re staying on site I’m gonna say probably not. Why? Let’s take the week of May 8-14th. The Magic Kingdom has EMH at night on the 11th until 1:00AM and on the 13th until 12:00AM Most EMH are really not all that crowded and so I would simply take advantage of these times and enjoy the perks of staying on property.

If you are not staying on property and you like to stay up late then this would likely be a VERY fun evening out. Frankly, I can’t think of a better date night for locals.

All in all, a lot will depend on what extra “bonuses” Disney adds to this as time goes on. I don’t agree with other blogs which say this will replace EMH, that would be a silly thing for Disney to do as that is a major incentive for staying on property. Still, only time will tell. I will update this page as more info comes to light.

Disney’s official page for this event is here.
